Cloud Peak Energy has filed a law suit against its business partner, Ambre Energy Ltd., regarding a dispute on the future use of the Decker Coal Mine 20 miles north of Sheridan. Ambre Energy bought a 50 percent interest in the mine in November of last year.
Since Ambre Energy took over, the mine has been working toward increasing production for export to Asian markets.
According to Businessweek.com, Cloud Peak's subsidiary, Western Minerals LLC, wants Ambre Energy's mine manager removed, alleging the current management is abusing its obligations and responsibilities. Ambre Energy said the management has done nothing wrong and said Cloud Peak wants the Decker Mine closed because it owns a competing coal mine where production has been increasing.
Calls to parties involved in the lawsuit have not been returned.
