Candidates who wish to file for public office positions in Johnson County or the City of Buffalo have until 5pm today to do so.
Openings with the county include one seat on the county commission, currently held by Chair Albert “Smokey” Wildeman, precinct committee persons and a Circuit Court Magistrate.
So far four candidates have filed for the opening on the county commission: Jim Hicks, Russ Humphrey, John Lueders and Wildeman.
In the city, there are two openings on the city council, one seat currently held by Justin Gerard and one seat held by Bill Hawley.
As of this morning, two candidates have filed for the city council openings: Bill Hawley and Scott Madsen.
Anyone who might be interested in throwing their hat in the ring as a candidate can file at the Johnson County Courthouse for county positions or at City Hall for city openings by filling out the necessary paperwork and paying the filing fee.
