Dayton Bob Wood

After passing on first reading, reworking of an old ordinance that would not allow property owners to have animals on just one or two acres of land stalled at the Dayton Town Council Meeting Wednesday night. Dayton Mayor Bob Wood.

The old ordinance stated that if you had “one acre or more” of ground you could keep animals on that property, and Wood said that they have had instances of several animals on different acreages. He added that the issue of supporting several horses on just 1 or 2 acres needed to be evaluated. Those with animals already on their property would be grandfathered in according to the ordinance approved on first reading, but new property owners would not be allowed to do so.

The town is in the process of cleaning up some outdated ordinances, Wood explained, and this was just part of that process.

Wood said he will seek council approval to schedule a public meeting and they will issue notice when that happens.
