Driver Faces Possible Vehicular Homicide Charges

UPDATE: The Wyoming Highway Patrol has now released the name of the person driving the vehicle in Saturday's fatal crash.

The driver has been identified as 34-year-old Hannah Terry of Big Horn. She was driving a 2012 Caravan, which is classified as a minivan, when she struck Larry and Sara Hurst who were riding bicycles.

Larry Hurst died at the scene. Sara Hurst remains in critical condition at a hospital in Billings, Montana. The information was released by Major Perry Jones. He said the driver is facing possible charges of DWUI, aggravated vehicular homicide and driving without insurance.

Authorities Release Crash Victim’s Name

Authorities have now released the name of the man killed today while riding a bicycle on Coffeen Avenue in Sheridan. The victim was Larry Hurst, 65, of Sheridan. He died at the scene.

The information was released by Deputy Coroner Kevin Sessions of the Sheridan County Coroner’s Office. He said Hurst’s wife, Sara, who was riding a bicycle with him was also struck by a vehicle and is in critical condition at a hospital in Billings.

The deputy coroner said the incident happened about four miles south of Sheridan. Hurst’s body is scheduled for autopsy Monday morning in Billings.

We still have no details about the crash or names of others involved because we’re waiting for a call back from the investigating agency, which is the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

LATEST UPDATE: 7:50 p.m. Today Saturday, from WyDOT Involvement Specialist Ronda Holwell: The crash was actually reported at 11:30 this morning on US Highway 87 or South Coffeen Avenue about a 1/2 mile south of Sheridan College. The bicyclists were traveling in the south bound lane, single file in the emergency lane, when they were struck by a vehicle also traveling south bound. The investigation continues and charges against the driver of the vehicle are pending.

A crash involving a vehicle and two bicyclists on Coffeen Avenue near Sheridan College in Sheridan has claimed the life of one person.

The information’s coming from the county coroner’s office. The names of those involved have not yet been released.

As for details of the crash, we’re waiting for a call back from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. According to early reports, the crash happened around 1-1:30 today and roads in the area were blocked off, immediately.
