Countywide Fire Restrictions Go Into Effect Next Week

In an effort to clean up fire district boundaries the Sheridan County Commissioners approved several petitions to add to the area covered by the Big Horn Rural Fire Protection District. A recent examination of district boundaries showed parcels of land throughout the county that are not covered by a fire district.

Landowners not in a district will be notified and given the opportunity to join one. Fire service will not be denied those outside the districts but landowners may be liable for the costs of fighting any fires on their property.

Commissioners also feel now is the time to enact fire restrictions as we get into the warmer and dryer weather. The 2009 fire restrictions will go into effect next Monday, July 27th. County Fire Warden Bill Biastoch (BY-eh-stock) says there are some very minor changes to this year’s restrictions.

The fire restrictions do not affect the Bighorn National Forest, but do cover the rest of Sheridan County. If you'd like to see the complete list of fire restrictions just click here.
