County P&Z Recommends Amendment to Allow Wind Energy Systems

The Sheridan County Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended approval of an amendment to the County's rules and regulations to allow small wind energy systems in all of the zoning districts with the exception of the airport district. Sheridan County Planner Mark Reid explains why the amendment is being proposed.

While Reid stated that there hasn't been a significant increase in applications for commercial wind energy systems over the last several years, this amendment may change that in the future.

The commercial wind energy systems amendment still must go through a public hearing process, which will most likely take place at the County Commissioners first meeting in July, prior to the commissioners considering the amendment.
