The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce has alerted its members about counterfeit bills being passed around in Sheridan. According to the chamber, one counterfeit $20 bill and a fake $10 bill were reported to the Sheridan Police Department on days on August 15 and 16.
Additional counterfeit bills may be in circulation in the Sheridan area. The chamber says if your business uses a currency marker for bills of higher amounts, consider using it on 10's and 20's for a while.
Also, on the two fake bills that have surfaced, the borders are slightly uneven and the overall bill is slightly smaller than real currency. If you hold one of these counterfeit bills up to the light, the security strip that appears on real currency won' be there.
If you encounter counterfeit currency, call the Sheridan Police Department at 672-2413.
