Council Tables Bid Award for Treatment Plant Upgrades

The Sheridan City Council elected to take a wait and see approach to awarding the bid for upgrades to the Big Goose and Sheridan Water Treatment Plants. The Council voted to table the item Tuesday night due to the fact that the lowest bid of $5.2 million came in at over $1 million over the engineers estimate. Another sticking point for the Council was the fact that if the bid were awarded at that amount, the City would have to apply for an additional $400,000 from the State to cover the cost of the project. Councilor Ryan Mulholland.

The EPA mandate requires the City to have the upgrades to safeguard against cryptosporidium in place by October of 2013. Since the Sheridan Area Water Supply System, or SAWS is a partner in the project, the Council voted to table the bid award until after next week's SAWS Joint Powers Board meeting.
