Council Split on Renewing “Chop House” Bar License

Though it passed on a 5 to 2 vote, Sheridan City Council held a lengthy debate about whether to renew the Bar and Grill license for Wyoming's Rib & Chop House, located off of Main Street in Sheridan. This license was issued about 2 years ago, and allows for more liberal standards for sale of alcohol, compared to what is allowed under a restaurant license. However, in their current location, the Rib and Chop House is not able to fully utilize a Bar and Grill license.

Councilman Robert Webster was one of two who voted not to renew the license:

However, Rib & Chop owner Shawn Maddox is currently in several negotiations to relocate her business to a location in downtown Sheridan, where she could fully utilize the Bar and Grill license. Sheridan Media's Betsy Love spoke with Councilman Ryan Mulholland about why he voted to renew the license:

The current agreement requires the Rib & Chop House to be operational or under construction by September 2011, and owner Shawn Maddox is required to give the Council periodic progress reports.
