The Sheridan City Council held a special meeting Thursday to formerly acknowledge and accept the resignation of Mayor Dave Kinskey.

Following Kinskey's resignation, Councilman Alex Lee nominated Council President John Heath to serve as Mayor for the remainder of the term through 2016. Shortly after being sworn in as Mayor, Heath offered these comments about his new position.

Having experience as Council President, Mayor Heath said that he and the Council are up to the tasks that lie ahead.

Kinskey resigned as mayor after accepting the appointment as a state senator to fill out the term left open by the death of Senator John Schiffer who died last month. Schiffer represented District 22, which covers Johnson County and portions of Sheridan County.

After a vote by the council, Alex Lee will serve as Council President and Bob Webster as Vice President for the remainder of 2014.
