Contract For Heat/AC Awarded By Jo Co Commission

The Johnson County Commissioners awarded a contract for maintenance of the heating and air conditioning systems at both the new jail and court complex to Powder River Heating and Air Conditioning of Buffalo.

The contract is for routine maintenance on the systems at both facilities, and to get the existing equipment at the jail up to par, as maintenance has apparently not been done during the last year since the facility opened.

Jim with Powder River explains what he wants to do with the equipment.

The company that originally installed the HVAC system in the jail has gone out of business, according to Sheriff Steve Kozicek, and the required maintenance at the jail over the last year has not been done because of that.

The cost of getting the HVAC system at the jail “up to par” will be approximately $7,000 and then an estimated $20 to $22,000 annually for quarterly maintenance.

An agreement for a yearly a maintenance contract at the judicial center will also be discussed in the future and is expected to cost significantly less than at the jail complex.

The new contract with Powder River Heating for the jail was approved by the commissioners.
