At this morning's Sheridan County Commission meeting, County Planner Mark Reid presented for the Commissioners' consideration and agreement to contract with Clarion Associates out of Colorado. Reid elaborates.
Telling the Commission that 73% of surveyed Wyomingites state preservation of open space is extremely important to them, Reid showcased in a Power Point display the difference between current development practices in relation to open spaces vs. clustered development options that would be designed to keep riparian habitats and natural landscapes preserved while still allowing for growth.
How does this play into the County Comprehensive Plan?
Commissioner Terry Cram agreed, telling the Commission that this was a "step in the right direction" in preserving open spaces.
After hearing Reid's presentation, the Commission voted to enter into an Agreement with Clarion to Prepare a Conservation Design Overlay for Sheridan County at an amount not to exceed $59,830.
As for a timeline, Reid says Clarion will hopefully get started yet this month and wrap up in a year. At that time, Commissioners would then ask to consider amendments to the County's existing Zoning and subdivision regulations.
