The jury trial for Sheridan resident Miranda Mraz, who's charged with Felony Larceny for allegedly stealing money from the Eagles Club at 5th and Main in Sheridan on April 21 of last year continued Thursday. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter was there and has the story.
The Prosecution continued to present its case with a bevy of witnesses that included employees and members of the Eagles Club. However, the most compelling testimony came during the afternoon session as the State called Sheridan Police Officer Scott Brastrup to the stand. Brastrup essentially was the lead investigator in the case. He testified that he interviewed Mraz twice the day that the alleged crime was reported. During both interviews, Mraz stated to Brastrup that she had come to work as usual that Saturday morning, at about 10:45ish and was attacked while putting her code in to turn the alarm off.
Further testimony from Officer Brastrup revealed that on Sunday, April 22nd he returned to the Eagles to be present when the history log and user ID of who armed and disarmed the alarm was revealed. The alarm panel log showed that Mraz had disarmed the alarm twice the morning of the 21st, once at 10:40, and the other time at 10:55. This is something that Mraz failed to mention to the detective during her two interviews and statement on the 21st.
Brastrup also testified that he'd retrieved video from the City of Sheridan, Star Video and Audio and Citco Federal Credit Union that showed Mraz's vehicle making not one, but two trips to work that morning. Following an interview at her residence on the 24th, Brastrup arrested Mraz, where she was booked into the Sheridan County Detention Center.
Shortly after being booked in that morning, Mraz made a phone call to her boyfriend, where she stated that she'd been arrested and that she'd forgot to tell the Police that she had to leave the Eagles because she had to go back home to get a tampon. Defense Attorney Hardy Tate had just begun to cross examine Brastrup when Fourth Judicial District Court Judge William Edelman recessed for the day.
