Community Leaders Push for Lodging Tax Renewal

The Travel and Tourism Action Committee has gained the backing of several high-profile community leaders, including both mayoral candidates, to encourage voters to renew Sheridan's lodging tax.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Dixie Johnson, said the tax won't be paid by Sheridan residents.

Judy Taylor, with the action committee, said the money collected from visitors is used to promote travel and tourism in the area, and facilitates advertising like the billboards seen on the outskirts of town. She addressed the Chamber of Commerce luncheon audience regarding its importance.

Johnson said Sheridan County's lodging tax is four percent, but other locations around the nation have a similar tax for tourists as high as seventeen percent.
