The Hand in Hand Childcare Center in Sheridan will close Friday, June 3rd.

The announcement earlier this week that the Hand in Hand Early Childhood Education Center would be closing in a matter of days was a shock to say the least to the parents of the over 140 children who attend the childcare center.

Many of those concerned parents attended a community meeting Thursday night where possible solutions, both short and long term were discussed by those in attendance.

While it was announced that there are upwards of 100 vacancies with the various childcare providers in town, Kristin Kelly says that there was a reason she chose Hand in Hand over the other options.

The Sheridan Quality Childcare Initiative Board was in charge of operations at Hand in Hand and Board Member Ryan Healy addressed the crowd about the Board's decision to close the childcare center.

Healy also stated that 88% of their budget went to teacher salaries. One of the options to the dilemma is the formation of the Little Big Horn Childcare Co-op. Spokesman PJ Treide says the next step has already taken place.

The closure will not only force many parents to scramble to try and find some other means of childcare, it will also put 21 staff members out of work. Hand in Hand will close next Friday, June 3rd.
