On August 18, a group of shooters at the Buffalo Run recreational area in Sheridan County started a fire due to the use of exploding targets. Earlier this month the U.S. Forest Service prohibited the use of exploding targets on national forest and grasslands in the Rocky Mountain Region.
Sheridan County Commissioner, Mike Nickel, urges shooters to use caution particularly because countywide fire restrictions are in effect.
According to the Goose Valley Fire Department, who responded to the August 18 blaze at Buffalo Run, the fire grew to 65 acres in size prior to containment. Commissioner Steve Maier says the county has tried to keep the area open to the public, and this fire didn't help the cause.
