The Johnson County Commissioners discussed funds they set aside for the YMCA with Director Mike Quast at their meeting this week, questioning what exactly they had set the money aside for.

The commissioners thought they had set the $100,000 aside for maintenance and a “slush fund” in case money was needed for an emergency situation on the building or its components.

Quast came before the council last month, requesting that money to use in the YMCA's proposed expansion project they are currently working on. That request was initially approved by the commissioners but questions involving the intended use of those funds prompted this week's meeting.

The discussions at this week's meeting included what the purpose of the fund was, how the YMCA could and could not use the money, and the legalities involved in each scenario.

The commissioners decided to table any decision in the matter until County Clerk Vicki Edelman could research back meeting minutes to find specifically what the commissioners had set the funds aside for.

The commissioners will discuss the matter further at their next meeting April 15th.
