Johnson County Commissioner John Gibbs, the liaison to the Johnson County Airport Board, gave a brief report to the commission on the happenings at the Airport Board meeting earlier in the week.

Gibbs said the board is looking into a possible land swap/purchase with an adjacent landowner. The landowner wants to swap 3 of his acres for 3 owned by the airport and then he wants to purchase 27 more acres from the airport.
The board is looking to see if the acres he is interested in are not part of their future expansion plans before pursuing the matter further.

Gibbs said the taxi lane project is about one week behind schedule.

The water line project from the NW Water Pipeline project to the airport is going well, saying they have poured the concrete floor for the water tank and will be running water lines from the main line in to an existing vault, where they will split the lines, sending one to the existing hangars and the other to the new taxiway for future expansion.

Gibbs said the “Wings and Wheels” event at the airport June 14th was a good time for everyone but there was a scary moment at one point in the day.
No injuries were reported in the minor incident, he said.

Gibbs said the board was pleased the commissioners had set money aside in the capital improvements line in their 2015 budget to fix a number of roofs on buildings at the airport.

Finally, he reported that the board has tentatively hired a person from Texas as the next Airport Manager, but he won't be able to begin the job until December.
The board is looking into what to do until then, but will probably have to hire someone temporarily until the end of the year.
