Commissioners Consider Subdivision Resolution Amendment

The Sheridan County commissioners tabled action on an amendment to the county zoning resolution that places additional restrictions on development in areas susceptible to ground water contamination. County Commissioner Mike Nickel explains the action.

One of the proposals for mitigating development in groundwater vulnerability areas is to require enhanced septic systems for new developments. County Engineer Ken Muller says the new systems do work.

Several members of the public had concerns about the proposed amendments. Many of those attending the meeting supported increasing the minimum lot size for subdivisions in the vulnerability areas to at least 5 acres.

Commissioners will revisit the issue at their December 15th meeting.
