The Sheridan County Commissioners are moving forward with plans to attempt to negotiate a 99-year lease of water rights with the Game and Fish for its portion of the lake. Last week, the commissioners sought legal council regarding the correct way to go about a negotiation independent of Johnson County. Commissioner, Terry Cram, explains they're hoping to leave differences aside.
The commissioners will consider a resolution Tuesday that would clarify Sheridan County's legal freedom to lease its portion of the lake for recreational purposes. The resolution, if passed, will then have to be accepted by the Lake DeSmet Counties Coalition and approved by the attorney general of the State of Wyoming.
