Johnson County Commissioner Albert “Smokey” Wildeman has officially thrown his hat in the ring to run for his seat on the county commission in this year's election.
Wildeman's seat is the only one up for election this year.
He said he wants to keep his seat to help maintain the commission's progressive stance on issues through a coming rough economic time.
Other projects he is proud of during his seven years on the commission include getting water to the fairgrounds, building the public health office, the realignment and reconstruction of Trabing Road and the current refurbishing of the fairgrounds.
Looking ahead at what he feels still needs to be done is improved infrastructure, and other smaller projects such as a joint city/county community building as well as building a broad economic base for the city and county without adding debt for future generations. He also said more cooperation between governmental agencies in the future will benefit all county residents.
He said he is hopeful for the future.
If elected, it will be Wildeman's third term on the commission.
