Buffalo's newest school, Cloud Peak Elementary, had its official groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon at the school site at what will become 100 Conrad Street.

City council members, county commissioners, school district and school facilities commission representatives as well as kids from both Meadowlark Elementary and Clear Creek Middle Schools attended the groundbreaking.

District Superintendent Dr. Rod Kessler had this to say after the ceremony.

Six students from Meadowlark were chosen to break ground on the school they will move into in the fall of 2013.

Alivia Hatch and Carter Hannah from the Kindergarten class; Jordi Knudson and Zander Hulet from first grade; Olivia Rhoads and Omar Sandoval from second grade and Laurel Rozema and Luke Knudson from third grade all broke ground in their hard hats with their golden shovels, which they get to keep as mementos of the ceremony.

The school is expected to be completed in May of 2013 and to begin classes that fall.
