The City of Sheridan will not protest Cablevision's filing with the Federal Communications Commission to remove the City Council's authority to regulate cable rates. City Clerk Scott Badley has been in contact with representatives from Cablevision and Attorney Joseph Van Eaton on how to resolve the matter.
Badley says that the attorney informed him that it wouldn't be in the City's best interest financially to protest the matter.
Badley presented the City Council with an email from Cablevision which states that “the only part of cable service that are permitted to be regulated is the price that's charged for the lowest tier of service, or basic tier of services”. The email went on to state that “In Sheridan, there are fewer than 200 customers that take this lowest tier of service and Cablevision has grandfathered their rates so when the filing is granted by the FCC, their service will not be impacted”.
