City Planning Commission Discusses Merits Of Large Acreage Annexations

Just a few months after the City of Sheridan approved one of the largest annexations ever, another large annexation request has been submitted. The City Planning Commission considered the request at their meeting last night.

If approved by the City Council, the request would add over 500 acres to the City in two separate parcels. Both tracts of land are just west of the current city limits on both sides of 5th Street. The land belongs to Developer Don Roberts and is part of the ongoing Cloud Peak Ranch development project.

Commissioners refused to take action on the request and tabled the matter until their next meeting due to some concerns with the application itself. Commission Chairman Alex Lee.

The plat supplied to the Commission did not specifically show the divisions between the R-1 requested zoning and the small area of B-1 zoning for the tract that is adjacent to 5th Street to the south.

The Commission will revisit the issue on Monday, October 12th. No matter what the commission ends up deciding, the request will also need to pass three readings before the Sheridan City Council before the annexation would go into effect.
