The Sheridan City Council approved on 1st reading an amendment to the City's building code. The amendment would change the occupancy requirement from 100 to 300 occupants before an automatic sprinkler system is required. City Public Works Director Nic Bateson says there is a legal issue that will need to be addressed.
Bateson said that raising the occupancy requirement will help lessen some of the financial burden that the current code can have on local businesses. The Council must still approve the amendment on two more readings before it can go into effect.
