The Sheridan City Council held a special meeting Tuesday night to adopt the budget for fiscal year 2010-2011. Balancing the $29.2 million budget was no easy task, as declining revenues made for a $1.3 million dollar budget shortfall that prompted voluntary employee buyouts and additional cuts across the board. Due to the large number of applicants for the optional one-cent funds this year, City Treasurer Jennifer Reed says they had a lot of maneuvering to do to get things balanced.

There were a number of first time applicants for the one-cent funds this year; however, none of the new applicants were awarded any of the optional one-cent funds in this year's budget. RENEW was one of those first time applicants, and RENEW Development Officer Jeff Foster addressed the Council and said that they understand the City's decision not to fund their request, and that RENEW appreciated the fact that the Council took their request into consideration.
