With Christmas Day behind us, and the New Year just ahead, many people think it's time to take down the holiday tree. So, city officials say residents can bring their Christmas trees to Sheridan's municipal landfill for recycling as early as today.
Or, they can dispose of the trees in any of the green waste recycling bins, parked around town. A spokesperson at the landfill said the green waste bins will be out until Jan. 31, so there will be plenty of time for residents to drop off their trees.
All tinsel and ornaments should be removed from the trees before disposal. The landfill spokesperson said the trees are recycled, but cannot be if any tinsel or ornaments remain on the branches. Landfill operating hours are from 7:30 until 5:30, Mondays through Saturdays, but the landfill will close early – at 3 o'clock – on New Year's Eve and will be closed to the public all day on New Year's Day.
