Kaycee, Wyoming has a population of 300; however, there is sure to be many more people in town than that come Father's Day weekend. Saturday, June 19 a life-and-a-half size bronze of Chris LeDoux will be unveiled in the new Chris LeDoux Memorial Park in downtown Kaycee.
Sculptor D. Michael Thomas of Buffalo, WY has been working on the sculpture for over four years. The bronze depicts LeDoux's legendary ride from 1976 where he won the Professional Rodeo World Championship in bareback riding in Oklahoma City. Thomas says he wanted to add something to the sculpture that was as unique as the man being honored.
The bronze, entitled “Good Ride Cowboy” will weigh 2,300 pounds and will be 13 feet high and 17 feet long.
The dedication of the Chris LeDoux Memorial Park in Kaycee, along with the unveiling of the sculpture will take place June 19th at 3 pm. A full schedule of the weekend's events can be found here: www.kayceewyoming.org.
