The Sheridan County Sheriff's Office was notified at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday that four tanks full of a black substance, some possibly leaking, were abandoned on BNSF property near a drainage ditch at 2701 North Main.

Deputy Mike Gale, Sergeant with the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office, explains what happened.

Gale says a crew with Cheyenne-based Driveway Experts left tanks containing what he was told is a water-based asphalt mix on railroad property. He says Driveway Experts and the property owner have agreed to retrieve them, and cleanup crews have been arranged.

From photographs taken at the scene, Gale says it looks like there may have been some spillage during the process of the crew filling up the containers. We'll have more on this incident as more information becomes available.
