Child Development Center Will Name New Facility After Long Time Board Member

Karen Kocurek will have one of Buffalo’s newest buildings named after her. Kocurek has served over 20 years on the Board of Directors for the Child Development Center Region Two, and was instrumental in starting the program here. The center serves both Sheridan and Johnson Counties. CDC Executive Director Sandi O’Dell says the new building under construction in Buffalo will be a great move for the center.

CDC Board Chair Valerie Spanos says that Kocurek is one of the quiet heroes in Johnson County.

The new building is expected to cost over $500,000 when complete, and it is the result of a multi-year fundraising campaign. The center will be more centrally located in Buffalo and is due to open near the beginning of the summer.

Karen Kocureku

A very well deserved honor. Karen and I have been best friends since 1968. I can think of no one who has cared more for young people with developmental, phyical, social or psychological issues than Karen. It has been her life's work since she graduated from the University of North Dakota and sarted working at the State Developmental Center here in North Dakota. She has loved every child she has ever came in contact with since day one of her work. Not that a few didn't get her totally frustrated at times. I think those she loved even more. Thank You for honoring my friend.
