An outage that disrupted internet and phone service in Sheridan County last night (Wednesday, April 9) has been traced to a Billings, Mont., data center.
A statement issued by Charter Communications and released to the media this morning said the interruption was detected by Charter personnel about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Engineers traced the issue to an equipment problem at the Billings facility.
The problem was corrected and services restored around 8:15 in the evening. The release from Charter said the number of customers affected is unknown, but the disruption included areas of Wyoming, Montana and Colorado. Charter Communications provides cable, internet and telephone service. Cable services were not affected by the outage.
