Children, Horses and Adults in Partnership, or CHAPS, will be conducting three sets of volunteer training sessions for new volunteers and for returning volunteers who need to be recertified. CHAPS Director Sue Suddith explains.
Each class consists of two parts on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The dates are February 8th and 12th; February 15th and 19th; and February 22nd and 26th. The Tuesday night classes will be held at 6 o'clock in the Sheridan College Whitney Building, Room 157. The Saturday morning classes will be held at 11 o'clock at the CHAPS Arena, located at 501 US Highway 14 East.
Suddith describes what they look for in an ideal volunteer.
She says that they had 45 riders each week last year, and this year they're hoping for a few more. The Horses for Heroes program has been steadily growing, and they welcome applications for new clients. Of course as numbers grow, the need for volunteers is critical. Suddith adds that there are many benefits to volunteering at CHAPS.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old; those between 16 and 18 years old must have parental consent.
