CDC Forecasts Tough Flu Season

CDC Forecasts Tough Flu Season

This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week for the Centers for Disease Control. While Sheridan County Public Health officials pushed the flu vaccine at the start of the season, the CDC has set this week aside to emphasize the importance of vaccination for anyone older than 6 months. Lyn Finelli, Chief of Influenza Surveillance and Outbreak Response at the CDC, says pockets of the flu around the nation are spreading quickly.

Wyoming was an area affected early by this year's flu season. Finelli emphasized that it's not too late to get vaccinated.

A media release from the CDC also notes American Indians are up to four times more likely than the general U.S. population to die from pneumonia and other influenza-related conditions. The CDC has established a program to encourage vaccination among this group. To learn more, follow the link at the end of this story at sheridanmedia.com.
