The Cato Fire, which has burned 27,700 acres northeast of Buffalo, is in mop-up stages as of Thursday evening, according to Johnson County Fire Chief Wes Johnson.
Johnson said the fire is not fully contained yet, but crews hope to have it contained soon. Weather on Wednesday and Thursday really cooperated with firefighters, he said, which were able to get a good hold on the fire.
Sixty-three firefighters from 12 different agencies have been involved in fighting the fire. Seven crews were scheduled to patrol the fire area Thursday night, he said.
We will have more updates and information on the fire as it becomes available.
