Car Accident Near Buffalo Tuesday Claims The Life Of a Sheridan Woman

44-year old Joan M. Baumann of Sheridan died in a car accident Tuesday afternoon on Interstate I-90 two miles east of Buffalo in Johnson County. A news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol states that the accident occurred at 4:23pm Tuesday when a vehicle driven by 18-year old Cara D. Underwood of Danville, Kentucky attempted to pass Baumann's vehicle. During the passing maneuver, the Underwood vehicle collided with the Baumann vehicle, sending both automobiles off of the roadway where both vehicles rolled an as-of-yet undetermined amount of times.

Baumann was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, 47-year old Dallas Baumann, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported by ground to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Both Joan and Dallas Baumann were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

At this point in the investigation, it is still unknown why Underwood was unable to control her vehicle while attempting to pass Baumann.

The report stated that upon completion of the crash investigation, all reports, findings and information will be turned over to the Johnson County District Attorney's Office for review. The District Attorney's Office will make the final determination as to the filing of any charges in the crash.

One thing I always hated

One thing I always hated about traveling in Wyoming was micro bursts of wind on the highway. I think everyone at one time or another has felt the wind whip a light vehicle one to two feet to the left or right in a split second. At 80 mph that's life and death.
