Bighorn National Forest Managers have announced that the Burgess Junction Visitors Center will not open in 2013. BHNF Recreational Staff Officer Dave McKee explains why they decided to not open this summer.
McKee wanted to clarify that the decision is in no part related to the possible cuts coming down from the U.S. Government.
McKee said that in years past the Burgess Junction Visitor Center was funded by a combination of Forest Service funds and a percentage of merchandise sales. He added that even though steps were taken to reduce costs, the funding hasn't kept pace with the annual operating costs of running the center, which is approximately $70,000. The visitor center has been open during the summer months since 1994.
