Joey's FlyfFishing Foundation held its 2nd annual fly rod building clinic Saturday. Foundation founder Joey Puettman, (pit-man), says it was a hands-on, build-your-own type of class.
And not just any rod. These are one-of-a-kind, handcrafted beauties that any fly fisherman would be proud to own. Joey says the clinic has one theme.
There was one special little lady there building her own fly rod...Reata (re-ah-ta) Cook. The eleven year-old is this year's Sheridan WYO Rodeo's Junior Princess. Being a princess is hard work but also a lot of fun.
But being a rodeo princess can be expensive with all sorts of travel expenses. Reata is building her one-of-kind fly rod to auction off at the Sheridan WYO Rodeo Royalty Fundraiser coming up Friday, April 27, at the Powder Horn Club House. And how much does she think her rod will bring in?
Joey's FlyFishing Foundation is all about helping kids to learn to fly fish, appreciate the beauty of the outdoors, and building positive relationships between the kids and great role models.
Raeta's dad, Jay Cook, says his daughter is learning to give back to other kids.
“Joey's FlyFishing Foundation was established in 2007 to reach out to youth and teach patience, confidence, respect and relationships through qualified, monitored mentoring and fly fishing.”
