Buffalo's Justice Center JPB Looks At Options For Old Building

The Buffalo/Johnson County Justice Center Joint Powers Board convened Tuesday afternnon in the County Commission Chambers to discuss options for renovating the old justice center.
The entity had looked into replacing the roof, performing renovations on the interior of the building, painting, new carperting and other amenities for possible use by Volunteers of America or other entities.
Estimates on the renovations had come back substantially higher than anticipated, which led to the special meeting to discuss options.
Commission Chair Smokey Wildeman updated the JPB on what he and VOA Juvenile Probation Officer Scott Duncan discussed during a recent tour of the building.
The JPB tabled the bids on the renovations for one year, to allow them time to decide what to do with the building and to continue negotiating with VOA to possibly have them as a tenant in the building this year.
Duncan will supervise those performing community service that will be painting and performing similar duties in the building, according to the agreement reached at the meeting.
The JPB will pay for paint and materials and the replacment of carpet where necessary as well.
