The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce's 2nd Annual Oktoberfest will be this Saturday, September 24th in Crazy Woman Square in downtown Buffalo.
The traditional German celebration will feature German music, a home brew contest, food and other vendors, the Tour de Lure, a bicycle poker run and of course, beer.
Buffalo Chamber Director Angela Jarvis explains how the traditional celebration started in Germany.
More than forty beers have been entered so far for the Home Brew Contest, with more expected to be entered this week, she said.
Each beer category winner will receive a $100 prize, as will the People's Choice winner, for a total of $900 in prize money. Additionally the winning lager will be showcased on-tap at the Black Tooth Brewery in Sheridan.
More fun includes a costumed bicycle ride called the Tour De Lure, and the bicycle poker run. Sheridan Media's Oldies 105-9, one of the sponsors for the Oktoberfest, will present a petting zoo featuring ponies including a favorite --Al Ca-pony. Local cub scouts will have fun activities planned as well.
Jarvis said it isn't just for those 21 and over, and those attending can keep an eye on the Wyoming/Nebraska football game.
The festivities will run from noon to 6 pm.
