Buffalo Police Chief Reports Sexual Assaults Increase

At this week's meeting, the Buffalo City Council got some unwelcome news concerning sexual assaults in the city from Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder.

Carder said there were nine sexual assault cases in the month of February, four involving juveniles. He said that is an unusually high number of assaults, and commented that there were four committed in one day.

Councilman Bill Hawley and Carder discussed the matter further.

Carder had no suggestions, saying citizens are reporting the incidents when they occur, assisting with investigations.

Councilman Hawley suggested people need to be more concerned with these types of incidents.

The community has very good counseling in place, Carder said, and law enforcement, citizens, schools and all other entities are working together to try to fix the problem.
