Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder gave his report to the city council at their last meeting, updating them on the Drug Abuse Resistance Education or D.A.R.E. program, church tours and discussing a grant application.
Carder said the department has completed the 5th grade D.A.R.E. Program and held a graduation ceremony for 89 students.
The 7th grade D.A.R.E. Program will be starting within the next couple of weeks, he said, and will take about six weeks to complete.
Carder also said they have completed their tours of area churches and have visited all 17 churches during the visits.
Carder also asked for permission from the council to apply for a grant through Montana/Dakota Utilities, or MDU, and he explained why.
The cost of the firearms would be $7,000 but with the trade-in value of their current sidearms it would leave roughly $1,500 left for the purchase of the new firearms. The MDU grant for $1,260 will leave $240 left for the city to pick up in the next budget cycle.
The council approved the grant application.
