The BDA (Buffalo Downtown Association) and the VBC (Vision Buffalo Commission) have both risen out of the ashes of the former BDA (Buffalo Development Association), and the process has been confusing to many.
Buffalo City Planner Zach Montgomery, who helped organize the entities, explains how the process happened.
Montgomery said the two entities have different objectives from each other, but there will be some projects they may work together on in the future.
The BDA will primarily focus on the Main Street Program, which is designed for economic development, to improve the downtown area itself, particularly Main Street. They have hired a Main Street Director to oversee the program, Montgomery said.
The VBC, he explained, will primarily administer the Buffalo Downtown Plan, which has identified seven or eight projects on which they will focus. Those include the Crazy Woman Square, parking concerns downtown, and overall improvements to the downtown area.
