Buffalo is in a competition with many other places in the country, vying to be one of “Prettiest Painted Places In America.”
The competition would be nice to win, according to Rachel McCaughey with the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, but the notoriety and publicity that comes with being nominated is very good as well.
According to the Paint Quality Institute blog, the competition is open to any community having homes and buildings with attractively painted exteriors. A “place” may be a city, town, historical district, or neighborhood.
Judges will select five small places and five large places from six regions for a total of 60 finalists which will be announced on September 20. These communities will be featured in regional publicity campaigns.
Judges will then select one small place and one large place from each of the six regions as the 12 Prettiest Painted Places in America. Winners will be named on October 10.

Buffalo was nominated by Lori Hogan with the Wyoming State Tourism Department, according to McCaughey.
