Cars lined each side of Fort Street approaching Bighorn Baptist Church from both directions Monday afternoon as family, friends and the community remembered former mayor and Buffalo City Councilman Bruce Hepp.
The church was filled to capacity for the service, with an estimated 500 to 750 people attending.
Pastor Clay Alexander commented on the numbers in attendance, saying it was the largest number of people he had ever seen in the church. Those in attendance shared stories and celebrated the life of Hepp. The one trait repeated over and over by those who spoke was Hepp's love and devotion to family, friends and the community.
He cared deeply about the community and the people, many said, evidenced by his numerous years of public service.
Passion, one speaker said, was what drove Hepp.
Final interment was in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo.
