A one-vehicle accident late Saturday night claimed the life of the driver, 21-year old Kristopher R. Graham of Buffalo. According to Buffalo Police Chief Mike Chapman, a call came in to the dispatch center about 11:17 pm of a vehicle upside down in Clear Creek in the vicinity of the Busy Bee Cafe in downtown Buffalo.

The first units got to the scene about a minute later, and Deputy Leigh Braley entered the creek, tied off by a rope, where he attempted to enter the vehicle.

The swift moving water prevented him from opening the doors, and after numerous attempts, Johnson County Fire and Search and Rescue took over the extrication attempt. Chapman tells us what happened.

Chapman does not know for sure if alcohol was involved, and would not speculate, preferring to wait on toxicology reports.

The vehicle, according to Chapman, was northbound in the alley behind the Sol De Vallarta Restaurant and attempted to turn west onto West Fetterman Street, but was moving too fast to negotiate the turn and plunged into the creek where it flipped and came to rest upside-down in the water.

The exact cause of death has not been determined at this time.

Chapman said there was a witness to the incident and the investigation is continuing.
