Buffalo To Lose Police Officer, Will Purchase New Vehicle

Buffalo Police Sergeant Garth Nicholas gave the report to the city council Tuesday, standing in for Chief Jason Carder.

Nicholas reported that the police department will be losing Officer Shane Greet to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and he explains why.

Nicholas also asked for council approval to request bids for a new patrol vehicle, to be purchased with FY 2012-2013 One-Percent Funds.

By taking bids now and then purchasing the vehicle, it will save the city over $2,000 and will assure delivery of the vehicle this summer instead of early in 2013.

The cost of the new patrol vehicle, either a Ford Expedition or Chevrolet Suburban, fully loaded with lights, radios and graphics is estimated to be no more than $44,000.

The council approved running ads for a new police officer and for bids on the new patrol vehicle.
