Jennifer Romanoski, representing the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce's Wild Bunch, approached the city council at their meeting Tuesday, asking for a letter of support for them to pursue a grant to help fund a proposed bronze statue of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid they hope to erect in Buffalo.
She explains more about the grant.
The grant application will be sponsored by Johnson County, through the Buffalo Downtown Association, with the support of the city on behalf of the Wild Bunch.
If funds are awarded for the project, the bronze statue would be installed at the northwest corner of Fort and Main Streets along with a small attached beautification project.
Local sculptor D. Michael Thomas has been contacted to design and create the bronze, and Romanoski said as soon as funding is awarded the project can move forward.
Much of the logistics involving the grant application are still being worked out, Romanoski said, but she is confident the application will be done before the deadline which is fast approaching.
