The traditional view of a “health food store” frequented by the earthy, bearded, hemp-shirted types isn't exactly what you find once you step into one. At least not in Buffalo's newest “healthy food” store, the Buffalo Food Depot, which advertises itself as “A Holistic Healthfood Center.”
Owner Laura DeMatteis explains what “holistic” means.
DeMatteis said after opening their other business, Up In Smoke, she and husband John found a number of families in Buffalo that wanted or needed healthy foods and they decided there was a need for these products in Buffalo.
The Buffalo Food Depot will feature organic and gluten-free foods, beverages, vitamins and supplements, and will soon add produce and dairy products.
Dematteis said they are starting with a limited inventory but are adding items as they are requested. If you don't see it, they will order it. And they will offer discounts for case quantities as well. They will eventually become a full-service healthy grocery, she said.
They will be celebrating their Grand Opening Friday and Saturday with free samples, give-a-ways and other goodies for those that stop by to see what they offer.
DeMatteis said they have a vision for the store and the community.
The Buffalo Food Depot is located at 22 S. Main Street in Buffalo, and their hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 to 6.
