The music and dance of the Balkan region of eastern Europe was featured this weekend during numerous events put on by Orkestar Zirconium, a Seattle-based drum and brass band here to share their gift with the people of Buffalo.
The events were brought to the area by Worlds of Music, funded by private sources and with grants from the Johnson County Recreation District and the Wyoming Arts Council.
The group performed at area schools, at the Buffalo Senior Center and had a “pub crawl” Friday night at three establishments downtown.
Saturday they offered workshops with area musicians and vocalists and wrapped up their time here with a dance at the American Legion.
During the performance Saturday night the group taught traditional dances along with performing their music.
David Romtvedt, with Worlds of Music, was asked why these types of events are important to towns like Buffalo.
Worlds of Music typically brings a few of these events to Buffalo during the year, giving locals a chance to see, hear, and experience different culture's music that they otherwise might not have a chance to experience.
