The Buffalo City Council welcomed its newest member at their meeting Tuesday, after Justin Gerard was sworn into office by Municipal Judge Mary Hupy.
The vacancy on the Council happened when former mayor and city councilman Bruce Hepp passed away last fall.
Gerard was one of six finalists that showed interest in the position, and impressed the council members enough in the interview section of the search to be nominated and approved at the last council meeting in December.
Gerard said after the meeting he was ready to get to work and learn the process involved in City government.
Gerard will keep his appointed seat through the end of this year, but will have to run for the seat in the General Election in November of this year if he wants to keep it past December 31st.
That, he said, is his plan.
